manganese dioxide
[Structural formula] MnO2
[Physical and chemical properties] Black or brown black powder. Insoluble in water and nitric acid, soluble in acetone. It reacts with cold hydrochloric acid to form a brown solution of high priced manganese chloride, which is heated to release chlorine gas and form manganese chloride.
[Usage] Mainly used in dry batteries as depolarizing agent, catalyst and oxidant in synthesis industry, good colorant, decolorizing agent and deironing agent in glass industry and enamel industry. Used in the manufacture of metal manganese, special alloy, manganese iron castings, gas masks and electronic materials oxide. In addition, it can also be used in the rubber industry to increase the viscosity of rubber. The catalyst can be used in the chemical experiment to oxidize the low price iron salt into high iron salt, so that the blue green of the glass becomes weak yellow. In the electronics industry, it is used to make manganese zinc ferrite magnetic materials, in the steel industry, it is used as a raw material of iron and manganese alloy, and a heating agent in the casting industry. Manganese dioxide as a catalyst reaction case:
In the laboratory, oxygen is produced in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and manganese dioxide. Here the manganese dioxide acts as a catalyst and accelerates the reaction.
2H2O2(aq)→2H2O(l)+O2(g)
Here manganese dioxide is the accelerant. When manganese dioxide is added to hydrogen peroxide, oxygen bubbles are created.

Manganese dioxide ₃ reaction with KClO₃:
KClO3 was heated in the presence of a manganese dioxide catalyst and decomposed to form KCLOo ₃ and oxygen. The equilibrium chemical equation is:
2KClO3→2KCl+3O2
Manganese dioxide, produced by chemical process, amorphous manganese dioxide, with large specific surface area and high catalytic performance, can be used in fuel cell carbon monoxide purification, hydrogen peroxide purification, formaldehyde purification, polysulfide sealant cross-linked curing catalyst, organic reaction dehydrogenation oxidation catalyst.
